California Bill AB 3252 Takes Effect January 1st
Starting January 1st, California Bill AB 3252 introduces important updates for court reporters across the state. Here’s what you need to know:
-
Partial Reciprocity: If you hold a Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR) or Certified Verbatim Reporter-Specialist (CVR-S), you no longer need to take the California State Skills Test. Instead, passing the Professional Practice and English exams will qualify you for licensure.
-
Lowered Skills Test Pass Rate: The required pass rate for the California State Skills Test has been adjusted to 95%, aligning with national standards.
-
Public Records Update: The Court Reporters Board will now collect and display the email addresses of licensed court reporters in public records.
-
Identification Requirement in Court: California CSRs must now state their name and license number on the record before proceedings begin.
These changes aim to streamline licensing, improve accessibility, and enhance transparency in the court reporting profession. Be sure to stay up to date and prepared for these new regulations!
